As of July 1, 2025, Maldives Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) has raised to 17%.

A new tax change has come into effect for all visitors to the Maldives.
As of July 1, 2025, the Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) has officially increased from 16% to 17%. The measure, approved as part of the 7th amendment to the GST Act last year, was implemented by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) and now applies to all tourism-related services and bookings.
This tax revision was first announced in late 2024, as detailed in our earlier post: Maldives New Tax Amendments to Impact Travelers – Starting November 2024.
What does this mean for travelers ?
If you’re planning a Maldives holiday, the TGST applies to your resort stay, meals, excursions, transfers, and other services. Any invoice issued or payment made from July 1 onwards will reflect the new 17% tax rate, even if the booking was confirmed earlier.
The change is automatic and resorts have updated their systems accordingly, including booking engines, POS, and invoices.

A reminder of current Maldives taxes in 2025
- TGST: 17% (applies to all tourism-related goods and services)
- GST (general): 8% (for domestic and non-tourism sectors)
- Green Tax: USD 12 per night, per person (USD 6 for guesthouses)
- Service charge: Typically 10%, added by most resorts and service providers
Why another tax increase in the Maldives ?
The government introduced the TGST hike as part of a wider fiscal reform plan to boost national revenue and support infrastructure and services tied to the tourism sector.
Final tip : Make sure to double-check your resort’s final pricing and inclusions when you book. Most offers already reflect the updated tax rate, but if you’re unsure, especially for older quotations, it’s worth confirming with your resort or travel agent.
