I have compiled the latest list of all existing Resorts in Maldives with one photo per each resort.
It all started in 1972 with the first resort in Maldives, Kurumba, still existing, in North Male Atoll.
The Maldives Islands have rapidly been transformed and built into Resorts.
How many resorts are there today in the Maldives?
As far as I know and according to the latest openings that I closely follow for years…

In 2018, There are 150 Resorts in the all Maldivian Archipelago
Almost a dozen new resorts are opening each year !
North Male Atoll and South Male Atoll have no more Islands for Resort leases.
Raa Atoll and Dhaalu Atoll are the current main new location for new resorts to open, followed by Noonu, Baa and Lhaviyani Atolls ( …).
Maldives land reclamation and dredging
Due to large demand from Hotel Cies and lack of land needed for Maldives housing and industry, the Maldivian government has recently increased authorizations for land reclamation ( including in protected areas of the Maldives).
What is Land Reclamation ?
Land reclamation consists of pumping sand ( in Maldives in the lagoon but can be anywhere ) and reinject tons of it above existing reefs via gigantic pipes to create a sandy land surface.

In 2019, according to present resorts and announced openings, there will be approximately 161 Resorts ( and probably a bit more…) in the Maldives in total.
11 New Resorts are officially expected to open in 2019.

Due to the crowded situation in central Atolls, most ( if not all ) new resorts are now opening in far away Atolls : Raa Atoll in North Maldives and Dhaalu Atoll in central South Maldives.
