Mirihi Island Resort, one of the most beloved small resorts in the Maldives, will be closed from 5th May to 30th November 2025 for extensive renovations and new add-ons.
Mirihi was among the first true boutique resorts in the Maldives, long before the term became fashionable. Through the years, Mirihi has remained small, intimate and very quiet ( not TV, no unnecessary noise ), and no extra building or additional villas above its magnificent house reef.

What’s New in 2025 for Mirihi ?
The resort has confirmed that Mirihi will remain faithful to its original philosophy : simplicity, serenity, and nature first. For guests who loved the quiet, TV-free villas and the intimate island feel, this is wonderful news. It is said that “The enhancements aim to elevate comfort without altering what made Mirihi so special.”
According to the resort’s official announcement, Mirihi upcoming renovation will include : refreshed villa interiors, an upgraded spa, a new lagoon-view gym, and the addition of four new two-bedroom Water Suites, each with a private pool. An infinity pool overlooking the turquoise lagoon will also be introduced, a first for Mirihi.
During the renovation, the resort will remain closed to ensure a complete transformation without disturbing guests. Bookings are already being accepted for stays starting December 1, 2025.
About Mirihi
Located in South Ari Atoll, Mirihi is a name that immediately evokes tranquility. Having stayed there ourselves, we remember the feeling of pure calm that defines the motto of the island : no TVs, no engine-powered water sports, no unnecessary noise. Just the beach, the reefs and thousands of fishes, all in silence. A rare place in the Maldives.
Our aerial photo of Mirihi Island

Mirihi is one of the best snorkeling resorts in the Maldives. Its house reef is one of the richest we’ve seen, with countless fish species just a few meters from the shore. For underwater lovers, Mirihi has always been a dream.
Mirihi belongs to Hussain Afeef, one of the founding figures of Maldivian tourism and the visionary behind Crown & Champa Resorts ( the group that includes the old-time classic Maldivian resorts like Meeru, Vilamendhoo, Komandoo, Hurawalhi, and Kudadoo.
Opened in 2003 together with Swiss entrepreneur Amy Stierli, Mirihi quickly became a benchmark for intimate Maldivian hospitality. In later years, the resort joined Thailand’s VIE Hotels & Resorts, continuing its story as one of the Maldives’ most cherished boutique islands.
As Mirihi prepares for this exciting transformation, we look forward to seeing how it will balance renewal and authenticity. Some islands change over time, others evolve while keeping their soul and I hope Mirihi will belong to the second category.
