Nowadays, anyone can sell a trip in the Maldives and “luxury” seems to be everywhere. You put a price online, and it’s done.
But it shouldn’t be that simple, especially in the Maldives. When you’re on an island for seven, ten, or twelve nights, your resort becomes your entire world.
It has to feel right. It has to be true.

I was born with a life shaped by travel.
My father was an expatriate, and I spent my childhood moving between French Polynesia, Africa, and France. Those early years among islands, sea winds, and new horizons marked me forever. That’s where my love for travel and for islands began.
After finishing my Baccalauréat in French Polynesia, I earned an Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management (equivalent to an HND), also in Tahiti.
During my studies, I gained early experience working for the Tourism Promotion Agency for Tahiti and Her Islands, and later as a trainee Guest Relations Officer at Sofitel Bora Bora, as well as an Agent in a Travel agency.
My career then beautifully started with Club Med, in Moorea, where I worked as a G.O. Soon after, I returned to Europe and joined Jet Tours, one of France’s leading tour operators.
What began as a representative role quickly grew into a full career : I became Area Manager, then Destination Manager for the Maldives, a position I held for nearly three years.
Those years in the Maldives were transformative. I was responsible for destination operations, logistics, service quality, and for scouting new resorts across the islands. I built an extensive professional network and, more importantly, a deep understanding of the country and its people.
Afterward, I spent time living aboard my own boat in Mayotte, an island in Indian Ocean, guiding private, nature-focused voyages for American and German cruise travelers. Later, I returned to France, rejoined Jet Tours as a Destination Manager, and spent time working in Egypt, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Senegal among other destinations.
And then I finally landed in …the Maldives !
It was during my years in the Maldives that I met Sakis, a travel and hotel photographer, who would become my partner in life and travel. Together, we began a shared journey that blended travel, photography, and storytelling.
We lived for several years in Amsterdam, continuing to work in tourism while returning regularly to the Maldives for long photographic expeditions. Over time, we explored the entire archipelago from Haa Alif in the far north to Addu Atoll in the deep south visiting more than 80 resorts, countless sandbanks, and remote islands.
We published three photography books and 10 years of annual calendars celebrating the natural beauty of the Maldives.

During one of these long stays, a beautiful time at Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, I discovered I was expecting our son. He later grew up among the islands, learning to swim, snorkel, and observe marine life. Those moments shaped us all, and strengthened the bond I feel with the Maldives.
As our travels continued, the idea for Dreaming of Maldives slowly took form.
With thousands of images, years of experience, and an intimate knowledge of the islands, I decided to gather all these fragments, the dream pieces of puzzle, as I like to call them, into one place.
It began as a small website, simply sharing our journeys, our photos, and the emotions the Maldives were giving us.
Over time, it grew into a curated world of its own, a space where travelers could discover not only the resorts, but the soul of the destination.
Today, I live in Greece, with Sakis. I continue to write, he photographs, and I share stories from the Maldives while working with a trusted partner based there.
They bring first-hand, on-site knowledge : visiting resorts, updating me on what has changed, what has improved, and what has lost its shine.
If a resort has declined, it has declined. We simply move on to the next, and the traveler is free to decide. Honesty always comes first.
For me, a journey to the Maldives is never just another trip.
For most travelers, it’s a long way from home, a once-in-a-lifetime escape, imagined as paradise. Over the years, I’ve watched the destination evolve from a few Maldivian-run islands to nearly 180 resorts, from barefoot luxury to ultra-luxury private islands.
Each has its own beauty : some blessed with stunning reefs, others with wide sandy bottom lagoons and endless sandbanks. Some pretend to be a dream, some are.
But beyond beauty and luxury, what defines a resort for me is its soul and the emotion it leaves in you once you’ve left.
Because, in the end, nowadays, anyone can sell luxury. You put a price online, and it’s done.
But it shouldn’t be that simple, especially in the Maldives. When you’re on an island for seven, ten, or twelve nights, your resort becomes your entire world.
It has to feel right. It has to be true.
For me, tourism and travel are life itself, and islands are my language.
Through Dreaming of Maldives, I keep sharing the dream I live, one story, one image, and one island at a time.
Never Stop Dreaming.
Yours, Dreamfully,
Rozenn.
