Essential Geography Facts
The Maldives have a unique geological formation.
- The Maldives have approximately 1200 Islands nested in 26 Atolls. They are beautifully called The Island Kingdom by Maldivians.
- The country superficy covers 90,000 square kilometres and spread over
an area of app. 820 km (512 mi) from North to South and between 80 km and
120 km (50 to 75 mi) from East to West.
- Of these 1200 islands, about 200 are inhabited by Maldivian people. We estimate that approximately
800 islands and sandbanks remain completely deserted and a bit more than 160 are allocated to Resorts.
