The Boho Chic Kanuhura Maldives Resort is sold to HPL Hotels & Resorts, Gili Lankanfushi Maldives owner.
The Mauritian Hotel group Sun Resorts has decided to lighten its portfolio with the sale of Kanuhura, its property in Maldives, to HPL Hotels & Resorts, a Hotel management Company based in Singapore.

HPL manages already 11 other Luxury Hotels in Asia and the Indian Ocean, including the extraordinary Gili Lankanfushi Maldives.
With the sale of Kanuhura, its unique hotel abroad, Sun Resorts chooses to focus only on its 4 properties located in Mauritius : The Long Beach, Sugar Beach, La Pirogue and Ambre.
This decision is a drastic response to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic which has hardly hit the hospitality and tourism sectors around the world for more than a year now.
The agreement was concluded at the end of March. Financial details of the acquisition have not -yet been disclosed.
Kanuhura, the story of multiple acquisitions
Originally managed and created by its former partner Kerzner International (owner of the legendary One & Only Reethi Rah ), under the name of One & Only Kanuhura, the hotel was first sold in 2008 to Sun Resorts to operate as Kanuhura.
The property also grown at the time with the purchase of its 2 neighboring islands Jehunuhura and Masleggihuraa.
The luxury resort, initially designed in a Maldivian Chic spirit, closed in 2015 for a complete renovation by Sun Resorts and reopened in December 2016 with a brand new design and concept targeting a young Boho Chic clientele.
The US$42 million renovation, which lasted almost 2 years, won recognition from Conde Nast Traveller as one of the world’s top hotel renovation.
About the Resort
Located in Lhaviyani Atoll, north Maldives, at 35 mns by seaplane from Male Intl. airport, Kanuhura is set across three islands – two deserted islands and Kanuhura itself.
